Entry from: Kumily, India Entry Title: “Kumily” Entry: “We arrived in Kumily at 9pm after a 6 hour bus ride from Kochi. The bus ride was extremely hot and sweaty but otherwise fine. We checked into a guest house which a rickshaw driver recommended but it was a decent price so we decided to stay. It ended up being one of the cleanest places we have stayed in India, it has bed sheets, towels and a tv so we were amazed. Kumily is a small town just outside the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary so most people stay here if they are visiting the park but it also has tons of spice plantations and tea factories which you can organise tour for. The next morning we woke up to thunderstorms and torrential rain and mist. The Lonely Planet did say to bring warm and waterproof clothing but we certainly wasn’t expecting that!! We got up late and had a wander into town to decide what to do. We didn’t fancy doing a jungle trek in the pouring rain so we thought we would do the spice plantations and tea factory. There are so many tour operators arranging trips so we just randomly picked one and ended up with a rickshaw driver who was excellent. Santosh the rickshaw driver drove us to the tea factory first which was so interesting. They showed us around the tea plantations first which covered the surrounding hills and gave us …
